We use Better Beans Binding in several NetBeans Platform Applications
and are trying to organize the current state of Swing Binding.

There are several simple bugs in binding in NetBeans that have been
reported, but no one seems to be working on them. For example, I
constantly have to correct the problem described in bug 237588.

Are there any real alternatives to beans binding for Swing?

Does anyone have a copy of JSR 295? I have found some problems in the
beans binding that may just be a lack of understanding of what it is
supposed to do.

I don't believe there are any alternatives to beans binding in Swing.
Nobody is working on those bugs because all the focus is elsewhere:
embedded, Web and JavaFX.

You could try to provide a patch for 237588; in theory the bug looks small.

Having just looked into the beans/ module's classes, the code is pretty
complicated but it shouldn't be hard to trace it and find a fix.
